Wow, I cannot believe that another year has come and gone. It feels like 2007 flew by. They say time seems to go by faster as you get older, so that means 2008 is going to be half way through before you know it. After all, January is already half way through. I hope that you guys made some good New Years resolution this year. I encourage you to stick to them. They say that after 30 days of doing something it becomes a habit.

Well, who knows, maybe one of your New Years resolutions was to dress more fashionably or I am going to care what I look like. They say that first impressions are formed within the first 10 seconds of meeting someone. 10 seconds doesn’t allow for much heart to heart, so that means a lot of weight is laid on how you carry yourself, the smile on your face, and even comes down to what you are wearing. So I am going to give you some tips on how to say “Hello World” with your jewelry!

      January’s birthstone is garnet, a beautiful, luscious red. It comes from the Latin meaning pomegranate, which is a red fruit with ruby red seeds. Garnet technically comes in every color except for blue, but it is traditionally known for being red. Garnet has been around for a very long time. It has even been found in burial sites dating as far back as the Bronze Age, which was in 3000 BC. Now that was a long time ago. It used to be believed that garnet would provide safety in the afterlife, which is why it was found in many tombs. The Middle Ages believed this stone got its rich red color from the fact that garnet was believed to stop bleeding. Many cultures would use garnet to prevent and cure blood disorders and infections.

      Garnet is said to represent faith! Some people believe that Noah hung a garnet on his ark to light his way and show his faith in God during the flood. This gem was first mined over 2500 years ago and is now found all over the world. Garnet is so tough and rough that there is such thing as garnet coated sandpaper.
